• Joan Sims 03

A typed letter, on her personal headed notepaper, by actress Joan Sims, signed boldy at the foot in black ink. She thanks a fan for his letter, and apologises for the delay in replying, citing the current BBC series she is recording. Sims (1930-2001) is best remembered for her many roles in the Carry On films (she was in twenty four of the series) and on TV she played Mrs Wembley in the BBC comedy series On the Up, which starred Dennis Waterman and ran from 1990 to 1992. From 1994, she played Madge Hardcastle, stepmother of Geoffrey Palmer's character Lionel in As Time Goes By.
