A page from an autograph album signed, and dated 1947, with a fountain pen by Eric Portman (1901-1969), the English actor probably best remembered for his roles in several films for Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger during the 1940s. A member of the Old Vic theatre company, he forged a reputation as a noted Shakespearian actor before making the shift to movies in the 1930s. In 1945, exhibitors voted him the 10th most popular star at the British box office and he maintained that ranking the following year. Notable credits include One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing (1942), We Dive At Dawn (1943), Millions Like Us (1943), A Canterbury Tale (1944) and The Colditz Story (1955).
