A 5 x 3 card signed in person by Leslie Phillips (1924 - 2022), the English actor with a very recognisable upper-class accent who came to prominence in the 1950s as Sub-Lieutenant Phillips in the long-running BBC comedy series The Navy Lark, alongside Jon Pertwee and Ronnie Barker. He moved into films and TV, often playing upper class fools and lecherous smoothies, utilising his "I say", Ding Dong" and "He-llo" catchphrases. In 1960, Phillips was cast in Doctor in Love, with James Robertson Justice, and they appeared in two further instalments, Doctor in Clover (1966) and Doctor in Trouble (1970), as well as several other comedy films including Very Important Person (1961), Raising the Wind (1961), The Fast Lady (1962) and Crooks Anonymous (1962). He starred in three of the Carry On film series (Nurse, Teacher and Constable), and was in several of the soft-porn farcical comedies that were popular in the 1970s, including Not Now Darling (1973) and Don't Just Lie There, Say Something! (1974). Phillips subsequently decided to move away from the kind of 'dirty-old-men-with-suave-chat-up-lines' which had characterised much of his previous work. Well into his seventies Phillips remained busy in both stage and television productions, along with character roles in films like Empire of the Sun (1987), Scandal (1989) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). He also provided the voice for the Sorting Hat in several of the Harry Potter films and appeared in British television sitcoms including Honey for Tea with Felicity Kendal and cameo roles in series such as The Bill and Midsomer Murders.
