A page from an autograph album signed in person by John Mills (1908 - 2005), the English actor who appeared in more than 120 films in a career spanning seven decades. Mills joined the army at the start of World War II, but his climb to stardom began when he was invalided out in 1942. Throughout the 1940s and 50s he was one of Britain's top box-office stars in a series of roles that ran from cockney ratings to stiff upper lipped officers, in movies such as In Which We Serve (1942), We Dive At Dawn (1943), This Happy Breed (1944), The Way To The Stars (1945), Great Expectations (1946), Scott Of The Antarctic (1948), Hobson's Choice (1954), Above Us the Waves (1955), The Colditz Story (1955) and Ice Cold In Alex (1958). After forty years in leading roles he finally won an Oscar - for a character part as a mute village idiot in Ryan's Daughter (1970).
