A 6x4 white card signed in person by Sam Kydd (1915 - 1982), the slightly built, craggy faced Irish actor who seemed to be in almost every other British film of the 1950s and 60s. He made over 290 films, more than any other British actor, playing resilient Cockney types just as likely to be amicable or antagonistic, upright or underhand. Before service in World War Two, his show-business experience was limited to a spell as M.C. for a dance band, but after being interned in a Polish prisoner-of-war camp from 1941-46 he returned to England and his film career took off. His movie credits include such films as The Blue Lamp, Father Brown, The 39 Steps, Passport To Pimlico, I'm All Right Jack, The Cruel Sea, Sink the Bismarck!, Reach for the Sky, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Too Many Crooks, Eye of the Needle, The Iron Maiden, Law and Disorder and Steptoe and Son Ride Again. He also appeared in the big-screen versions of Dad's Army and Till Death Us Do Part. His best-known television roles were in two TV series of the 1960s, as the smuggler Orlando O'Connor in Crane and its sequel Orlando. He also had a recurring role in Coronation Street as Mike Baldwin's father, Frankie.

Sam Kydd died of emphysema, aged 67. His son, actor Jonathan Kydd, reported that his father smoked up to 80 cigarettes a day.
