A white card with a scalloped edge, dated 1954 and signed in green ink, adding Best Wishes, by Helen Hayes, the American actress whose career spanned almost 70 years. She eventually garnered the nickname "First Lady of the American Theatre" and is one of twelve people who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award. She won an Oscar for her first sound movie, but preferred to concentrate on the stage for several years before returning to Hollywood in the 1950s, where her star soon began to rise. She starred in My Son John (1952) and Anastasia (1956), and won another Oscar for her role as an elderly stowaway in the disaster film Airport (1970). She followed that up with several roles in Disney films such as Herbie Rides Again, One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing and Candleshoe, and made a number of TV movies including The Snoop Sisters series, in which she and Mildred Natwick played two elderly sisters who routinely stumbled across mysteries which they solved.
