The French former actress, singer and model was famous for portraying sexually emancipated personae with hedonistic lifestyles, and was one of the best known sex symbols of the late 1950s and 1960s. Born and raised in Paris, Bardot started her acting career in 1952 but her breakthrough came with her role in And God Created Woman (1956). Her first English-speaking film role came in Doctor At Sea (1955) opposite Dirk Bogarde, and for her role in Viva Maria! (1965) she was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Foreign Actress. In 1968 she returned to Hollywood for another western, Shalako, opposite Sean Connery. She acted in 47 films, performed in several musicals, and recorded more than 60 songs.
