A white card signed, and dated 1906, by Sarah Bernhardt (1844 - 1923), the French actress who has been referred to as "the most famous actress the world has ever known". Bernhardt made her name on the stage in the 1870s, and with the coming of silent movies was soon in demand across Europe and in America. She developed a reputation as a serious dramatic actress, earning the nickname "The Divine Sarah". One of her best roles was in Queen Elizabeth (1912), which helped establish the Paramount studios in America. Bernhardt died from uremia following kidney failure in 1923; she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1751 Vine Street.
